Hey gang back at it again and this time I took the XT2 to THE SHIRE here in Matamata New Zealand. If you haven’t checked out last week’s images you can click HERE. When Hillorie told me that we should visit New Zealand, I replied “To middle earth? HELL YES” I was ecstatic because this was something I always wanted to do and that dream came true for both of us. Seeing the movie set was surreal, it evoked this whimsical feeling inside, it made you feel like you were part of the Lord of the rings movie! So let’s get started!
Welcome to Hobbiton! The movie set is about 2 hours away from Auckland. Tickets can be purchased at the front desk although online booking is recommended.
After a quick 10 min bus ride from the box office. We have arrived and this is one of the first hobbit holes you’ll see!
As the guide takes you through the set you get to see more of this tiny town.
Walking through this set is definitely magical. I don’t know how else to explain it. Throughout the tour I was waiting for hobbits to come out, but the tour guide said that they would appear to people that they know. Ahh I wish I was Gandalf…
Hobbit baked goods sitting outside their tiny table. Unfortunately the goods are not real… These guys are breaking my heart…
And we arrived to Bilbo’s House! This is the moment we’ve all been waiting for!
Fun fact : Production would tear down the set after the LOTR movie have wrapped. But by the third LOTRs movie began production, they started to use materials that were more permanent, so the hobbit holes would last, thus creating Hobbiton Tours for everyone to experience this magical place.
Hobbiton Mills shot on the double arch bridge.
After a long walk around Hobbiton, we were guided to The Green Dragon Inn where local refreshments await. You get a choice of their homemade ale, only available if you are to visit Hobbiton or gingerbeer. I chose the gingerbeer because there’s no alcohol and guess what Hillorie got? She got the ale, what an alcoholic!
You can dress up as hobbits! Here is Hillorie dressing up as a hobbit. When you get inside the Green Dragon Inn, there are clothes hanging on the rack for you to try!
Here is a shot of some hobbit holes overlooking the lake. One last look at Hobbiton before we make our way back to reality.
Awe it’s over! I can’t believe it! I want to go back, please someone take me back!
Thanks guys for joining in this week’s adventure! I hope you guys enjoy the images.
